EDPB launches form to support consistent GDPR interpretation across Europe

The European Data Protection Board launched a dedicated contact form on 24 June 2026 to help identify possible inconsistencies in how the GDPR is interpreted across Europe. The initiative follows the EDPB’s Helsinki Statement, which emphasised stronger clarity, support and engagement with stakeholders.

The form allows stakeholders to flag alleged divergences between national positions, or between national positions and EDPB guidance. The EDPB has said it will not respond individually to each submission. Instead, information submitted through the form will be compiled and discussed at Board level to assess whether further action is needed.

For organisations operating across several Member States, the form may become a useful channel for raising practical interpretation problems that emerge in cross-border compliance work. Privacy, legal and compliance teams should consider whether recurring divergences in national guidance or supervisory practice are suitable for submission.

Why it matters

One of the GDPR’s long-running challenges is achieving consistent interpretation while supervisory authorities operate within different national legal and procedural systems. A central reporting mechanism may help the EDPB identify areas where new guidance, clarification or coordinated enforcement could reduce fragmentation.

What to watch

The EDPB will review submissions collectively rather than as individual complaints. Organisations should monitor whether the Board later issues new guidance, FAQs, coordinated enforcement priorities or consistency initiatives based on patterns reported through the form.
